When I was a child, I used to love Sesame Street! Of course there weren't as many options then as there are now, but Sesame Street was right up there with the Electric Company, and later- Reading Rainbow.
A couple things I used to love about it were characters, like Oscar the Grouch and the Count, and some of the bits they used to do, like counting to twelve. (I still sing the song sometimes.)
But one of my favorite things of all was Grover doing NEAR and FAR. This was great to me, and I think it's still great. If you haven't seen it, go ahead and give it a watch. It will only take a couple minutes- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZhEcRrMA-M
I love that clip. It reminds of a Scripture, James 4:8 that says "Draw near to God & He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; & purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
You know what, we may not realize it, but too often we play a game of near and far with God. One day we’ll draw near to God and the next day we’ll run as far away from him as we can. We get caught in a constant battle of running back and forth between being near God and being far away. That race will wear you out.
Maybe you're a person who has been running far from God. This Sunday we're going to talk about how to draw near to Him. If you live in DFW and don't have a church home, we'd love for you to be our guest.
